ParaNorman making-of featurette: “Hand-making the World”

I posted the trailer for Laika’s ParaNorman last October, and while the film still has a little way to go before its August 17th release, Focus Features has posted a making-of featurette on the official website.

I’m a huge animation nerd, and I love behind the scenes/making-of stuff, so I thought I’d post something other than a trailer or a short film just this once.

A synopsis for the zombie flick follows after the cut:

Trailer Watch: Ben Affleck’s Argo international trailer

Ben Affleck’s based-on-a-true-story thriller Argo, “the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis—the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades.” After the one-two punch of Gone Baby Gone and The Town, I’ll go anywhere with Affleck, but this looks exceptional.

The film stars Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Kerry Bishé, Kyle Chandler, Rory Cochrane, Christopher Denham, Tate Donovan, Clea DuVall, Victor Garber, and many, many more. It hits theaters October 10, 2012 — just close enough to Oscar season to stay fresh in everybody’s mind, but early enough to not get drowned out by Flight, Life of Pi, Skyfall, The Hobbit, Twilight, Django Unchained, This Is 40, and Kathryn Bigelow’s still-untitled Osama Bin Laden movie.

(Thanks to Twitch for the heads up, as well as the embed, obviously.)

Trailer Watch: FOUR (sort of) teaser trailers for Monsters University

A teaser trailer for the prequel to Pixar’s Monsters Inc., Monsters University, has found its way to the internet in four very slightly different versions. (The only difference is a one-liner early on — you’ll know which one after you watch the first one. I watched all of them all the way through so you don’t have to. They are all very funny, though!)

The whole film, which was directed by Pixar story artist Dan Scanlon, hits theaters on June 21, 2013.

Trailer Watch: Stop-motion zombie action in Laika’s ParaNorman teaser

Laika, the stop-motion animation studio that produced Coraline, is back next year with ParaNorman.

In the film, a boy who can speak to the dead must save his town from a zombie uprising.

ParaNorman is aiming for a August 17, 2012, release. The voice cast features Kodi Smit-McPhee, Casey Affleck, Tempestt Bledsoe, Jeff Garlin, John Goodman, Bernard Hill, Anna Kendrick, Leslie Mann, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.
