Trailer Watch*: Medieval Land Fun-Time World extended trailer

* Not really.

In Medieval Land Fun-Time World, theme park manager Eddie Stark has one week to whip his lackluster group of employees into shape before the park’s grand opening. (Not) coming this winter to a theater near you.

Thanks for the heads up, Shanin!

Multiplex is brought to you in part by the letters P, A, T, R, E, O, and N

Thanks (again) to all of the Patreon sponsors to date for helping reach the first milestone, allowing me to get rid of the leaderboard ad. Although the Patreon campaign is based on monthly subscription, I took the ad down early.

Special thanks are due to Andrew Hathaway at Can’t Stop the Movies, a film review and discussion site! Hey — don’t you like movies? Check them out.

One bit of news: Multiplex: There and Back Again is due to arrive at my apartment tomorrow! That means I’ll get the pre-orders up and running at the Multiplex Store in the near future. I want to make sure I get the Kickstarter rewards out of the way first, though, and with school started up again, that may take me a little while.

The Return of the Triple Feature!

The_Triple_Feature

The Triple Feature, the late, lamented podcast I co-hosted with Theater Hopper’s Tom Brazelton and Joe Loves Crappy Movies’s Joe Dunn is coming back for a one-time special video episode. That’s right — this time, you will get to see our pretty faces, too!

On January 26th at 9pm Central, Tom, Joe, and myself will be Google+ Hanging Out to discuss a triple threat of topics: Jack Reacher (the Christopher McQuarrie Tom Cruise flick), the first few episodes of Helix (the new sci-fi series from Battlestar Galactica’s Ronald D. Moore), and Slayground (the fourth and latest in Darwyn Cooke’s series of comics adaptations of the Parker novels)! It should be a lot of fun.

In order to be able to “call in” (ask questions during the show either in the group chat or possibly even join us on screen), you must be one of my Patreon backers at the $10 level or higher. Those of you who are eligible will receive invites before the show starts. But I will be making the video available to watch on YouTube after the fact.

Late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro review

The late 2008 MacBook Pro I had been using since early 2009 had started to show its age. Adding 8GB of RAM and an OWC Mercury Electra SSD extended its life for a bit longer, but it was time.

I was tempted by the first generation Retina MacBook Pros, but talk of laggy UI performance and my old laptop performing well enough for Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign — my main programs — kept me from pulling the trigger. (OSX Mavericks has supposedly alleviated much of that lag.) But I’ve been doing more and more video and animation work in grad school, and that’s where my late 2008’s performance really suffered.

So I waited for the second generation, and when it was announced and released, I jumped. (Thanks for the Apple Friends & Family discount, Andy. My student loans are paying for this guy, but it was nice to save a couple hundred bucks.) Here are the specs of the model I got:

• 15″ MacBook Pro with Retina Display
• 2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (upgraded from the stock)
512GB SSD for storage (stock)
• 16GB of RAM (stock)

It’s in my greasy little hands now, of course — or, rather, sitting on my desk — and I’ve used it for a couple of months, so here’s how it’s been doing for me so far:
