NOTES FROM THE MANAGER

The Kickstarter project has climbed to over 30% of the funding goal! Great work, y'alls. Still a long way to go, of course, but I saw a post over on the Kickstarter site that said 94% of all sites that cross the 25% mark reach or pass their funding goal. Very exciting! I'm already getting eager to share the book with you, even though it's still got a long way to go yet.

Don't let that encouraging statistic convince you not to pledge, though — if I actually pass the goal, I do keep the extra money (which I'll use towards a larger print run, distribution, and promotional expenses) — but if I fall even $1 short, I get nothing! Think of it as a year-in-advance pre-order. ;)

A few people have asked about my time frame. On the outside, I'd like the book to be ready before the Windy City Comicon next year — but obviously I'll put it out as soon as I possibly can. That's a lot of time, of course, but there's a fair chunk of new material in the book.

There's more to pledging than just the rewards, though: Kickstarter backers got to read this strip a day early — and they'll be getting occasional, exclusive bonus strips, too.* (Some of these bonus strips from the future eBooks, others that are more "outtakes" from the present-day continuity. If you can't afford to pledge, don't worry; it will never be anything you need to read to follow the story.) They'll also get other exclusive content, such as videos about how I create Multiplex or… um… other stuff I haven't really decided about yet.

* UPDATE (9/25): Speaking of which, a "guest strip by Kurt Bollinger" has popped up over on the Kickstarter Updates page — for backers only.

Anyway. The movie Kurt talks about in his, er, comic strip (and the trailer he happens to be watching on YouTube) is Pandorum, of course, the Ben Foster/Dennis Quaid sci-fi horror movie that, yeah, kinda looks like the Reavers from Serenity/Firefly or Dead Space or something else sort of familiar. But I'm kind of curious about a horror script that could attract Ben Foster and Dennis Quaid to star in it.

Check out the Pandorum trailer over at Apple.
