I actually bought "Something Wicked" by Tip the Van off of iTunes. I can't find any of their work elsewhere. Awesome ska band with all female vocalists.

"(M)orning EP" - Mae

This. Is pretty much. AMAZING. And more progressive since their last album. I can't wait for the next two EPs to come out.

Just got the deluxe edition of the new Swell Season album (Strict Joy). It includes a whole live concert with it (including of course stuff from their first album, some Frames songs, and a whole lot of storytelling), for a whopping 3 hours of awesome.

Fantastic stuff.

I just got that album too. The deluxe edition was a steal at Best Buy for $13. I really enjoyed Once and it was sad to hear about them breaking up. The album I also picked up with that one was Michael Buble: Call Me Irresponsible. That's a pretty good album as well. Reminds me of Frank Sinatra mixed in with Harry Connick Jr.

Banner Pilot - Collapser

It's a great album, I've been listening to it since I saw them almost two weeks ago.

Comedy Duo Adam and Joe's Song Wars album.

2 presenters from BBC6 radio have a song off each week about a given subject and this is their first release. In their own words "It's a bit like star wars, except with songs"

I seriously recommend BBC6 to all those who can be arsed with bland bubble-gum pop music stations.

Except George Lambs show...he's a Twat.

Woo! I finally found someone else who likes Count Buckules and Dr Sexy!!!

I know this is so late and over but I just have to do it...

"Stephen!"
"Just coming!"

And in the spirit of not spamming and actually commenting on the thread topic, the last few albums I got that I totally loved (I know they're old but I think that says something about recent music and the fact that I hardly ever like more than 3 songs on an album)
Dead Kids (not really proper albums, but inspired nonetheless)
The Ting Tings - We Started Nothing (hate for them turned to love)
Cold War Kids - Robbers & Cowards
The Enemy - We'll Live And Die In These Towns
M.I.A - Kala
Robyn - Robyn
Boy Kill Boy - Civilian
Amy MacDonald - This Is The Life
Also anything to do with Bloc Party, Duke Spirit, Arctic Monkeys, RHCP, Franz Ferdinand, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Fratellis

Nothing really from the past year :(

Yes, I buy albums. I find it preferable to stealing, especially since there are so many musicians in my family.

Buying the album doesn't mean you're supporting the artist. In fact, filesharing has actually helped quite a few semi-underground artists by spreading their music. Musicians make the bulk of their money from shows, merch, etc. I'd rather support them that way.

To support an opinion, an interview with Reel Big Fish!
Quote:
Reel Big Fish are an act that a large majority of listeners discovered through peer-to-peer, file sharing programs. How does that make you feel, and what are your personal feelings towards downloading music?

That's awesome! I think downloading has helped this band get as big as it has, especially in the United Kingdom, where we didn't have any albums available until 2002. I also think downloading has kept this band going as long as it has..

Plus, it can be a bugger to find the CDs of obscure bands I really like. They're not available in most local stores, online too.
Plus! Downloading is technically not stealing. Its copyright infringement or somesuch.

Yes, filesharing can help underground artists gain recognition, but buying a CD definitely helps support the artist, as well as the music industry as a whole. Millions of jobs depend on CD sales, and downloading a song without purchasing it is stealing, technicalities be damned.

Piracy isn't stealing! It's piracy.

Stealing removes the original copy, preventing someone else from having ownership. Piracy simply makes a copy.

That being said, I finally got around to buying the Crystal Castles album. Once you get past the stupid, screaming vocals (which are only on a few tracks, thankfully), you get really nice chiptunes.

My love of chiptunes stems from my love of video games.

No, copying is making a copy. According to the dictionary, piracy in this context is "unauthorized copying, distribution, or use of another's production".
Piracy/illegal filesharing apologists argue for the nobility - or at least the neutrality - of piracy, but fail most of the time because they seldom include the concept of intellectual property in the equation. If someone has chosen to monetise their intellectual property by selling copies, then making copies and distributing them without the permission of the creator/proprietor is a transgression, pretty much any way you look at it. And if "stealing" isn't a usable shorthand for "taking and exploiting something that isn't yours to take and exploit", then they really should make up a word for it.

Piracy is illegally acquiring something without compensating the creator of the work. The difference between that and stealing is negligible outside of court.

I enjoy being Canadian, where downloading copyrighted materials isn't illegal yet.

Uploading, selling, and distributing is another story, which is the only reason BitTorrent isn't perfect for a Canadian. Damn those internet police, emailing me about leaving some torrents running for others to download...

Sure, it's unethical, but otherwise I'd be either bored or broke, neither of which I think I can handle right now.
