A new trailer for Looper is up — this one for the international markets. They might be showing a little too much, and we definitely get a bit more of the plot than we have anywhere else, so if you want to go in blind, maybe pass this one up, but God damn, this flick (still) looks good.
Looper opens on September 28 and stars Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Noah Segan, Piper Perabo and Jeff Daniels.
Up until the apparently obligatory (these days) tag at the end, this is a pretty moody, ominous trailer. I feel like studios force trailer cutters to add those things at the end. For lighter action flicks, sometimes it can be a fun little “hey also” to put in at the end, but here, it’s just tacked on, and considering we’ve already seen the flying whatever-it-is (I guess they just call it “the Bat”) earlier in the trailer, it’s kind of pointless.
But whatever. The movie itself looks as promising as it always has — I’m guessing everybody reading this is already on-board or not, and nothing Warner Brothers can show to us now is really gonna sway that. The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters on July 20th, 2012.
After three mini-teasers, we finally have the whole trailer for Looper, the new sci-fi flick from Rian Johnson (Brick, The Brothers Bloom), and GOD DAMN. This is gonna be sweet as hell.
The trailer gives you most of this, but here’s the synopsis:
Time travel will be invented, but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” — a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) — is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination. The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels.
This one has kind of a goofy premise and the fact that David Koepp wrote it doesn’t carry a lot of weight with me, but Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Shannon have pretty good taste in scripts lately, and the direction by John Kamps looks solid enough to keep things interesting, so who knows?
Premium Rush co-stars Dania Ramirez and Jamie Chung (Sucker Punch). It hits theaters in the former No Man’s Land of January — now the home of minor box office hits like Cloverfield and… uh… Paul Blart: Mall Cop, specifically on the 13th.
UPDATE (10/22/11):Dark Horizons is reporting that Premium Rush has been moved to an August 24, 2012, release date. No explanation was given.
