Trailer Watch: How to Train Your Dragon 2 official trailer #3

I’m not going to watch this, since I’d like to go in as blank as possible with this movie (so I’ll thank you not to blurt out anything spoilery in the comments below, despite it being in a trailer), but…

How to Train Your Dragon 2 is out on June 13, 2014.

Trailer Watch: How to Train Your Dragon 2 teaser trailer

Okay, if you didn’t watch that yet, watch it. (And since somebody is going to ask, yes, I loved it.)

The reveal at the end, for those of you who haven’t seen promotional images before, is that Hiccup is older. Five years older, in fact.

From the official synopsis: “While Astrid, Snoutlout and the rest of the gang are challenging each other to dragon races (the island’s new favorite contact sport), the now inseparable pair journey through the skies, charting unmapped territories and exploring new worlds. When one of their adventures leads to the discovery of a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace.”

As writer-director Dean DeBlois explained to Variety earlier this year: “At the end of last film, all these Vikings who were previously somewhat landlocked are now on the backs of dragons so the entire Northern Hemisphere opens up to them. And with that Hiccup’s curiosity increases, the map expands and inevitably they are going to come across new dragons, new cultures.” Hiccup soon “discovers a larger conflict brewing between humans and dragons and he finds himself at the center of it.”

It’s a pretty brave move, to redesign characters from a popular film like this, and I think it’s a good sign that they might actually take some chances with this sequel and give us something original enough to stand next to the original.

Trailer Watch: Movie 43 red band trailer

I’m usually a little nervous about anthology movies, but how can you go wrong with this trailer —

— and with this cast (Johnny Knoxville, Gerard Butler, Anna Faris, Seann William Scott, Hugh Jackman, Richard Gere, Uma Thurman, Halle Berry, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, Kate Bosworth, Kate Winslet, Terrence Howard, Liev Schreiber, Justin Long, Kristen Bell, Patrick Warburton, Josh Duhamel, Jason Sudeikis, Chloe Grace Moretz, Stephen Merchant, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Jack McBrayer, Kieran Culkin and Chris Pratt) and these directors —Elizabeth Banks, Steven Brill, Steve Carr, Rusty Cundieff, James Duffy, Griffin Dunne, Peter Farrelly, Patrik Forsberg, James Gunn, Bob Odenkirk and… uh, Brett Ratner. Can’t win ’em all, right? Maybe his bit will be good, though. Who the hell knows?

Anyway, January 25, 2013. Be there.

ParaNorman making-of featurette: “Hand-making the World”

I posted the trailer for Laika’s ParaNorman last October, and while the film still has a little way to go before its August 17th release, Focus Features has posted a making-of featurette on the official website.

I’m a huge animation nerd, and I love behind the scenes/making-of stuff, so I thought I’d post something other than a trailer or a short film just this once.

A synopsis for the zombie flick follows after the cut:
