Trailer Watch: Gus Van Sant and Matt Damon find Promised Land

Coming out in limited release on December 28th is a little weird for a movie starring Matt Damon and directed by his Good Will Hunting director, Gus Van Sant. Promised Land arrives just in time for Oscar consideration, but not really early enough to draw a lot of money. Still, a drama starring Damon and Frances McDormand as company salesmen working to convince a small town to sell drilling rights to their property, against the objections of a small group of locals (Hal Holbrook, John Krasinski and Rosemarie DeWitt) might not be chipper enough for the Christmas season, even if the odds of a downbeat ending are pretty slim.

Still, the trailer looks… er… promising.

Trailer Watch: Wreck-It Ralph theatrical trailer

This is a few days old, but grad school has me off my blogging game, so… whatever. Anyway.

The Wreck-It Ralph teaser sold me on this already, but for those of you who aren’t so sure yet, this new theatrical trailer gives us a closer look at the story (and the cameos!) in the Disney CGI feature.

Veteran Simpsons and Futurama director Rich Moore’s Wreck-It Ralph will wreck the box office on November 2, 2012. John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer, and Jane Lynch top-line the film, with Alan Tudyk, Mindy Kaling, Adam Carolla, Horatio Sanz and more rounding out the cast.

Trailer Watch: Cloud Atlas domestic trailer

A little over a month after the five minute international trailer for Cloud Atlas hit the web, we now have a domestic trailer, which gives you the barest details of the plot(s) and showcases a few of the film’s stars. The film (like the novel) weaves together six separate-yet-connected stories: a 19th century sea expedition, 1930s Belgium, 1970s California, present day London, a dystopian future Korea, and a post-apocalyptic Hawaii.

Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Sturgess, Ben Whishaw, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant, Bae Doona, David Gyasi, Susan Sarandon, Keith David, James D’Arcy and Hugo Weaving star in the October 26th release. Andy and Lana Wachowski & Tom Tykwer co-wrote and co-directed the film.

Trailer Watch: Lawless red band trailer

The new, red band trailer for Lawless is out, and it still looks pretty damned good.

Director John Hillcoat’s follow-up to The Road stars Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman and Mia Wasikowska. Nick Cave (The Proposition) adapted the screenplay from the novel “The Wettest County in the World” by Matt Bondurant. The film hits theaters on August 29.

Trailer Watch: RZA’s The Man with the Iron Fists red band trailer

RZA’s The Man with the Iron Fists has a red band trailer out, and I’m guessing if you’ve seen the first trailer, this isn’t going to change your opinion of it.

The plot is… hahaha, who cares? Just watch the trailer.

Russell Crowe, RZA, Lucy Liu, Rick Yune, Jamie Chung, Cung Le, Dave Bautista, Byron Mann, Daniel Wu, and Pam Grier star in RZA’s directorial debut, which he co-wrote with Eli Roth (Hostel). Catch it in theaters on November 2, 2012.
