Trailer Watch: Jodorowsky’s Dune theatrical trailer

Jodorowsky’s Dune is one of the most influential films never made. Its fingerprints are all over so many movies that came after (and were actually produced). If you’re a sci-fi movie fan, you owe it to yourself to check out this trailer.

The Frank Pavich documentary premiered at Cannes last year, to enthusiastic reviews. It finally hits theaters this March.

Where do you find works by obscure or foreign directors such as Jodorowsky? The trailer for this looks fascinating and has me interested in watching some of his films, but I’ll be damned if any local video store carries his works (a common problem I have with multiple movies I’m interested in).

A lot of his stuff just isn’t available (I don’t know the details, but he and the rights holder were or are on the outs, I guess?). Maybe that has changed recently, I don’t know. I’m really only familiar with his comics writing.

But assuming you’re not near a big city (they tend to have at least one weird shop specializing in this stuff), GreenCine carries more obscure stuff that Netflix doesn’t, sometimes. Facets Cinematheque in Chicago has a mail order service too, I think? Both aren’t exactly cheap, unfortunately.

This is a trailer for a documentary about the movie. The original movie isn’t available. It was originally six hours long, and a master piece, but was edited down to 3 hours, and then to two, and the bits that were cut were destroyed.

      • Gordon McAlpin says:

You’re confusing this with David Lynch’s Dune. This version of the film was never even SHOT.

Lynch’s Dune was never meant to be six hours; his original cut was only intended to be three hours long and cut down to two. And I don’t believe the material cut from Lynch’s Dune was destroyed. There are longer cuts incorporating material Lynch disapproves of (and so his name is removed from those versions), and Universal has tried to get him to recreate a director’s cut, which he has expressed no interest in. That would be impossible if the footage doesn’t exist.

(Anyway, the Titillator meant the other films Jodorowsky which has actually made, I’m sure.)

I bet that would have beat David Lynch’s “Dune” all to hell!

look for his comic book works. a lot of good stuff there. i mostly know him from that, less for his film work.

but i have been waiting for this documentary to come out for at least a year.

That looks completely insane. It reminds me of the story of the unfinished poem ‘Kubla Khan’.
