Trailer Watch: Karen Gillan and Katee Sackhoff get scary in Oculus

Director Mike Flannigan’s Oculus premiered at TIFF last year, and it will get a US release this April.

Here’s the plot synopsis (via Twitch):

Ten years ago, tragedy struck the Russell family, leaving the lives of teenage siblings Tim and Kaylie forever changed when Tim was convicted of the brutal murder of their parents. Now in his 20s, Tim is newly released from protective custody and only wants to move on with his life; but Kaylie, still haunted by that fateful night, is convinced her parents’ deaths were caused by something else altogether: a malevolent supernatural force unleashed through the Lasser Glass, an antique mirror in their childhood home. Determined to prove Tim’s innocence, Kaylie tracks down the mirror, only to learn similar deaths have befallen previous owners over the past century. With the mysterious entity now back in their hands, Tim and Kaylie soon find their hold on reality shattered by terrifying hallucinations, and realize, too late, that their childhood nightmare is beginning again…

Multiplex is brought to you in part by the letters P, A, T, R, E, O, and N

Thanks (again) to all of the Patreon sponsors to date for helping reach the first milestone, allowing me to get rid of the leaderboard ad. Although the Patreon campaign is based on monthly subscription, I took the ad down early.

Special thanks are due to Andrew Hathaway at Can’t Stop the Movies, a film review and discussion site! Hey — don’t you like movies? Check them out.

One bit of news: Multiplex: There and Back Again is due to arrive at my apartment tomorrow! That means I’ll get the pre-orders up and running at the Multiplex Store in the near future. I want to make sure I get the Kickstarter rewards out of the way first, though, and with school started up again, that may take me a little while.

Trailer Watch: The Raid 2 theatrical trailer

Gareth Evans’s 2012 The Raid (a.k.a. The Raid: Redemption) was an incredible fun, brutal Indonesian action flick. The trailer for its sequel hints at a much bigger story and a much larger (under)world that our hero Rama (Iko Uwais) gets to play in. Enjoy!

The Raid 2: Berandal is playing at Sundance tonight and hits theaters in the US on March 28th.

The Return of the Triple Feature!

The_Triple_Feature

The Triple Feature, the late, lamented podcast I co-hosted with Theater Hopper’s Tom Brazelton and Joe Loves Crappy Movies’s Joe Dunn is coming back for a one-time special video episode. That’s right — this time, you will get to see our pretty faces, too!

On January 26th at 9pm Central, Tom, Joe, and myself will be Google+ Hanging Out to discuss a triple threat of topics: Jack Reacher (the Christopher McQuarrie Tom Cruise flick), the first few episodes of Helix (the new sci-fi series from Battlestar Galactica’s Ronald D. Moore), and Slayground (the fourth and latest in Darwyn Cooke’s series of comics adaptations of the Parker novels)! It should be a lot of fun.

In order to be able to “call in” (ask questions during the show either in the group chat or possibly even join us on screen), you must be one of my Patreon backers at the $10 level or higher. Those of you who are eligible will receive invites before the show starts. But I will be making the video available to watch on YouTube after the fact.
