The original movies were well done, and I enjoyed the third most of all. (The second wasn't as good as the first, but it's worth it to get to #3.) I would never have thought to describe the first film as a "serial killer" movie, and that's the only one that has a serial killer. You should definitely check them out (warnings: sex and violence and rape) in subtitles...it's the only way to watch non-English films and appreciate the performances.

Netflix, BTW, has them all with subtitles embedded.

I must admit that at I was, initially, a bit confused by the “serial killer” remark. Yes, the first film/book involves a serial killer, but I don’t think of it as a story about a serial killer. But that’s probably just me.

I’ve seen the three Scandinavian films and the stage play adaptation of the first book, but haven’t read the books themselves.

The trailer certainly looks a lot like the original films, and it was a bit strange to see the Swedish “polis” cars, and the “Sjöströms livs” convenience store in a trailer for an American film.

Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist seems like a good choice – his performance will probably be quite different from that of Michael Nyqvist who played the part in the originals.

As to the point of remaking the film, I think Scott Zank gives a good reason in his comment about his dislike of subtitles. Apart from that there’s the budget – I seem to recall the first film being one of the most expensive Scandinavian films ever, but that is easily trumped by a Hollywood production.

I think the trailer looks great, and I’m looking forward to seeing the film – fortunately it’ll come out at the same time on both sides of the pond, so I won’t have to wait any longer than you guys.

This visual style looks almost exactly like the original, and most of the cast looks like their Swedish counterparts. I really hope Fincher did more to set his version apart than shoot it in English, otherwise what's the point?

Did you even watch the trailer? (My video was broken, but I've replaced it now.)

Have you ever seen Seven?

And did you watch the red band version that was around the web. There's some heavy fuckin' in it. Rooney Mara is practically naked on the international POSTER, there's gonna be so much sex in this.

The original films were good. I am not so sure that American studios will release the kind of films that these were. There was a lot of violent sex and other sex & violence that I am 100% positive will be "cleaned up" for these "new" films.

The books were awesome, I didn't really watch the Swedish versions of them because of my dislike of subtitles. I love Daniel Craig as an actor, I thought he gave Connery a run for his money with his James Bond performances. If you haven't read the books and enjoy a good mystery novel, you should really pick these up.
